A question I always get asked when my families come to the studio is ‘’what do we wear to the studio’’ for our photoshoot. So here’s a little guide to give you an idea.
Firstly, all you need to bring for your baby is nappies and milk. I have my own wraps and matching backdrops within the studio to dress your baby for the session. I will be in touch with you before the shoot to ask what colours you were thinking of using and give you my advise.
I will ask you what colour backdrop you prefer for your family shoot. This will then give you an idea on what to wear. I can use dark backdrops like greys or browns or I also have a creamy light backdrop if you prefer. If you plan on having your photography mounted/framed in a particular room within your house, then planning before the shoot will hopefully get you the best outcome.
Simple and neutral is what I advise. If you select a darker background then wear darker colours and if you plan on a lighter backdrop wear lighter colours. Avoid colours that clash. Similar tones are what I advise.
Wear solid colours. Ideally with limited or no print. We want to keep the attention on the baby. You’ll find by doing this your portraits don’t age and are timeless. Any logo or words will draw your eyes and take the attention away from your baby. It will also date your pictures.
Dress as if you are going out for a smart meal. Bear in mind I like to heat the studio so your baby is comfortable. If you think your on holiday in a very warm location you will remain comfortable whilst I’m posing you and the baby.
Bring a spare set of clothing. If we prepare ourselves for the worst. You wouldn’t want to miss out on a family portrait as your baby has had a little accident.
Please iron your clothes as my camera will really show the creases.
Often, I photograph dads with no tops on, I find dark jeans look great. So if you want to dress more formal for the family shoot then its a good idea to also bring some jeans.
For siblings, plain and neutral clothing is advised.
